MOPS

I have recently been a part of a group called MOPS (Mothers of Preschoolers). It is a big group of moms who gather together the 1st and 3rd Thursday of the month to fellowship from 9:30 -11:30. You do not have to be a part of church to attend.

I had a few misconceptions about MOPS. First, I thought you had to have a child in preschool to attend. Second, I thought that it would be a small gathering of moms. The first time I went to the meeting at E-Free there was about 80 moms. It was very organized which I presumed it would be more like a small group setting. It costs $6.00 each time but it is well worth it for the yummy breakfast, speakers, and childcare. They also do a lot of drawings for prizes. It is a great way to meet other mom's in your area as well as get out of the house.

Another great thing I like about MOPS is if you need prayer, or any kind of support it is a great resource. For example, if you have a home business you can share what you do or if you have a sick child and need meals the moms can pull together to help. They also have what they call "mentor moms." These moms sit at each table and usually have kids that are grown. They have a lot of wisdom when it comes to raising families.

I must say I have really begun to enjoy the group. Each week you sit at the same table, therefore, letting you get to the know the other ladies. Usually each week there is a speaker who talks about topics such as sibling rivalry, how to dress your body post pregnancy, how to deal with holiday stress etc. They have childcare available so it is a nice break to meet fellow moms as well as in our case have Alex experience playing with other kids in the nursery. Each time I have put Alex in the nursery the workers are so caring and do such a fabulous job taking care of the kids. I am thankful for this group. I would encourage any new mom to try it. I know Fort Collins has a few groups to choose from.
